About this service

Most homes in East Village were built before standard sizing existed. Walls aren't square. Floors slope. Ceiling heights vary room to room. Off-the-shelf furniture and stock cabinets never quite fit. That's where real carpentry comes in.

We do custom built-ins, trim work, framing, doors, and millwork for homes across East Village and Manhattan. Every piece is measured to your space, built to fit the existing conditions, and finished to look like it's been there since the building went up.

Working in East Village or one of nine other Manhattan cities? We’ve done carpentry work in all of them. Curious how we run a job site? Read our story.

Our Process

How a carpentry project actually goes

  1. Step 01

    Free in-home consultation

We look at the space, talk through what you want, and check existing conditions (wall plumb, floor level, available material, existing trim profiles to match).

  2. Step 02

    Written quote within 48 hours

Itemized - material, labor, finishing. Includes any prep or repair work we noticed during the visit. Miss the 48-hour deadline? Take $250 off.

  3. Step 03

    Design + materials

For built-ins, we draw the design with you (paper or simple CAD). For trim, we match existing profiles or pick from our catalog. We agree on every detail before cutting wood.

  4. Step 04

    Build

Most carpentry happens off-site (custom built-ins) or fabricated on-site (trim work). Either way: precise scribe-cuts to your walls and floors, no gaps, no caulk-as-filler.

  5. Step 05

    Finish + walk-through

Sand, prime, paint or stain to match. Final walk-through together. Nothing leaves until every joint, miter, and reveal is right.

Verified Google Review
I just had my bathroom completely renovated by East Village General Contractor and I'm so happy with how it turned out. They listened to what I wanted, suggested smart ways to make the small footprint feel bigger, and the workmanship was top-notch — clean grout lines, level fixtures, no rushed corners. Finished on the date they promised. Communication throughout was great. Couldn't recommend more highly.

FAQ

Questions East Village homeowners ask before booking

Can you match the existing trim in my old building?
Yes. Most older East Village buildings have specific trim profiles - Victorian-era ogee, Craftsman flat-stock, art-deco geometric. We bring samples, match the profile, and order or mill replacement pieces that look original.
How long does a built-in take?
Simple wall-to-wall bookshelves: 3–5 days on-site (often built off-site, installed in 1 day). A full media wall with cabinets, shelves, and integrated TV: 1–2 weeks. We give you a written schedule.
Can you fix an old door that won't close?
Yes - this is one of the most common repair jobs we do in East Village. Doors stick because the building has settled, the door has swelled, or the hinges are loose. We diagnose the cause, then plane, shim, rehang, or replace as needed.
Do you do structural framing too?
Yes. We frame walls, floors, and ceilings for renovations, basement finishes, layout changes, and additions. Anything load-bearing gets engineered drawings and proper permits.
What's the cost for crown molding in a room?
A typical 12x14 room with simple crown profile: $1,500–$2,500 installed and painted. More elaborate built-up profiles or higher ceilings: $2,500–$4,000. We quote fixed price after measuring.
Do you handle the painting and finishing?
Yes. Carpentry quotes include sanding, priming, and painting or staining unless you tell us otherwise. We don't leave bare wood for someone else to finish.
